QR Reader Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how QR Reader handles QR and barcode scans, created codes, local storage, device permissions, sharing features, and links opened through third-party apps or websites.

Effective Date: March 29, 2026

Primary Storage

Scan history, created codes, folders, and preferences are primarily stored locally on your device.

User-Controlled Sharing

External sharing, map opening, calls, email, SMS, and similar actions occur only when you choose them.

1. Information We Handle

QR Reader can process information that you scan, create, save, organize, or share through the app. This may include QR code and barcode contents such as website links, phone numbers, text, SMS data, event details, contact details, Wi-Fi data, email data, location data, and other encoded content.

We may also store app-related preferences such as tint color, folders, and local usage state needed for app functionality.

2. Local Storage on Your Device

QR Reader primarily stores your data locally on your device. This can include scanned history, created QR codes, created barcodes, folder assignments, and app preferences.

If you scan from the camera, the app may store a related local image frame for scan history. If you choose a center image while designing a QR code, that image may also be copied into the app's local storage so it can be displayed again later inside the app.

3. No Account Registration Required

QR Reader does not require you to create an online account or submit registration details to our servers in order to scan or create codes using the core app experience.

4. Permissions We Request

  • Camera - to scan QR codes and barcodes using your device camera
  • Photo Library - to let you choose images for scan input or QR design features
  • Photo Library Add Access - to support saving or exporting QR code images on supported flows
  • Location - to help you pick your current location when creating location-based QR codes
  • Calendar - to let you add event information from QR codes into your calendar
  • Contacts - to support saving contact information decoded from QR codes on supported system flows

The app's core QR and barcode features do not rely on microphone access for normal use.

5. Sharing and External Actions

QR Reader can help you share QR images, text, links, contact data, and other decoded content using your device's system share sheet and compatible apps.

The app can also open external destinations such as websites, phone links, email links, SMS links, and map apps when you choose those actions. Once you leave QR Reader, the privacy practices of those third-party services or apps apply.

6. Maps, Calendar, Contacts, and Other Platform Services

Some app features rely on platform or third-party services available on your device, such as map providers, calendar services, contacts workflows, and the system share sheet. Data you send to those services is handled according to their own privacy policies and device settings.

7. Data Sharing

We do not sell your scanned content, created codes, or saved history. Data is primarily kept on your device, unless you intentionally share it, open it in another app, or use a platform feature that transfers data outside the app.

8. Data Retention and Deletion

Locally stored scan history, created codes, barcode history, folders, and app preferences remain on your device until you delete them inside the app, clear the app data, or uninstall the app.

Files generated for sharing or local QR design support may also remain on your device or in temporary system locations until removed by the app, the operating system, or you.

9. Data Security

We rely on the security protections provided by your device and operating system, including app sandboxing, system permission controls, and local device protections. You are responsible for keeping your device secure, including using passcodes, biometric locks, and other protections available to you.

10. Children's Privacy

QR Reader is not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal data through the app, please contact us so we can review the issue.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the effective date on this page.
